Successful Applicants Announced – Queensland Mental Health Week Community Events Grant Program

QAMH congratulates the grant recipients who will share $88,600 in grants to host community events during Queensland Mental Health Week (8-14 October) through the Queensland Mental Health Week Community Events Grant Program.

5 Rotary Club Mackay North Inc North Mackay A community fair promotes awareness of mental illness and provide access to 70 professional service providers, along with family activities and entertainment. $2,500
6 Bundaberg Regional Council Bundaberg A community lunch to promote services and supports available to the communities of Gin Gin, Childers and Bundaberg. $1,660
7 Livingstone Shire Council Yeppoon Diverse community activities to promote the important role that physical activity, good nutrition, social connectedness, mindfulness and good sleep hygiene has in the management of mental health. $2,270
8 Bamboo Projects Education Ltd Dakabin A community wellbeing event including land-based fishing, community BBQ, jumping castle, face painting, ceramic painting activities, and mini games combined with local referral agencies. $2,500
9 Wesley Mission Queensland Brisbane Over 400 staff and volunteers across ten community, disability and aged care services will be served coffee and mental health awareness over two days, including talks by special guests, group discussions and information resources. $2,289

19 Dysart Community Support Group Inc. Dysart Communtiy events in Dysart and Middlemount to launch the local wellbeing framework, modelled on the Wheel of Wellbeing, create awareness of lived experience, and promote local support services. $1,250
20 Australian Parents Education Association Brisbane A morning tea for Chinese parent/s adults on the importance of stress management in the preventing mental illness, debunk myths and highlight ‘good parenting’ and wellbeing over academic acheivement. $657

24 Cystic Fibrosis Queensland Ltd Brisbane An educational event to respond to the needs are primary carers of people with cystic fibrosis, covering depression, anxiety, isolation and stress on family relationships, as well as strategies for good mental health. $1,600

37 Rockhampton High P&C Association Rockhampton A school event to build on RUOK Day, “RU4Real… Everyday…Where to Next?” connects local Elders, school community and service providers, promoting school as a safe space to talk, and access support. $2,500
38 Headspace Ipswich Ipswich “Diversify – a Multicultural Showcase for Mental Health Week”, presents multicultural performances and delicious cuisine to address barriers to accessing supports, as well as providing an information platform for families. $2,500
39 Multilink Community Services Inc. Logan Central A free barbeque to engage local community in conversations about mental health, raise awareness of suicide, foster inclusion and promote wellbeing, including information booths and resources from local service providers. $2,500
40 Lawnton State Primary School Lawnton A colour run event for the school community connecting students and families with local service providers, providing information and support to build positive mental health. $2,437
41 Ferny Grove State School Brisbane A week of Mindful Morning Teas with daily presentations to support the mental health and wellbeing of school staff, the broader parent and student community. $2,000
42 Mental Awareness Foundation Brisbane The “Walk for Awareness 2017” promotes awareness about mental health, suicide prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices. Mental health service providers will share and distribute valuable information to participants. $2,500
43 Coombabah Primary School Gold Coast Wellbeing – “Respecting Self, Respecting Others”, brings together students, educators, parents/carers and the wider community, for fun and educational activities and information on community mental health supports. $2,500
44 Grow Brisbane To highlight the stigma of mental illness, Grow is hosting an Odd Sock community event including a car wash, information sharing sessions, theatre production and multicultral food stall $2,500
