Economic Value of Informal Mental Health Caring in Australia

QAMH member organisation, Arafmi, recently launched a research study into the cost of informal mental health care, commissioned by Mind Australia and undertaken by the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research.

The study provides the first known estimate of the economic value of informal mental health care in Australia. It found that it would cost the government an estimated $13.2 billion to replace informal mental health carers with formal services as at 2015.

This is an excellent report and we encourage our readers to read this report.
